Tai Chi & Qigong Instructor Training Course – Level 1

Deepen your practice and empower others through our highly-acclaimed Tai Chi & Qigong Instructor program. At the Qigong Taichi Centre (based at Yogalily Studio, Milton Keynes) we bring original Chinese traditions directly to you, guided by an ancient lineage of masters.

Our mission is to preserve and share the deeper understanding of Tai Chi and Qigong — insights that are often lost through cultural and linguistic translation — so students can experience these practices as they were truly intended. Guided by Lili Chen, a senior teacher with over 20 years of dedicated study and teaching, our training is rooted in authentic lineage and real-world experience. As fully qualified educators who have taught across schools, universities, corporate settings, charities, community groups and care homes, we are committed to developing your teaching skills and practical confidence — so you can share the practice you love with clarity, integrity and ease.

We are excited to announce our Level 1 Tai Chi & Qigong Instructor Training course, running April–June 2026. This four-weekend, hybrid program combines live online sessions with in-person training at our Milton Keynes studio. It’s open to enthusiasts of Tai Chi or Qigong practice or an equivalent experience (e.g. Registered Yoga and Pilates Teachers, fitness coaches, martial artists) who wants to add these internal martial arts to their skill set. You’ll also receive a comprehensive manual and practice videos to support your learning long after the course ends.

The Course

Why this course?

Learn authentic Tai Chi & Qigong from Lili Chen, a teacher with 20+ years’ study and practice under Chinese and international masters. Our school brings authentic Tai Chi and Qigong practices and Traditional Chinese Medicine insight that are often lost in translation — taught clearly, practically and with lineage-based depth. This Level 1 training equips you to teach safe, effective foundation level classes in studios, gyms, community settings and care environments.

Our Aim
To guide and inspire practitioners to deepen their understanding of Tai Chi & Qigong, cultivate their own wellbeing, and gain the confidence and skills to share these ancient practices safely and effectively with the wider community to bring them harmony and vitality.

Our Expectations

  • A consistent Tai Chi or Qigong practice prior to starting the course
  • A commitment to your own development by attending regular in-person or online classes before the training begins, ensuring you arrive prepared and confident to learn

Overview

Who it’s for

  • Tai Chi or Qigong Practitioners and enthusiasts who wish to deepen their understanding of Tai Chi & Qigong beyond form practice — exploring the underlying principles, theory and tradition — whether for personal development, improved health and wellbeing, or as a foundation for future teaching
  • Or Registered Yoga & Pilates Teachers, Personal Trainers, Coaches, Martial Artists, Group Exercise Instructors and wellness professionals seeking to add mind–body offerings

What you’ll learn (overview)

  • Foundations of teaching: class structure, warm-ups, cueing, safety, adapting for individuals and groups (including seated practice)
  • Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) essentials: Qi, meridians, Yin–Yang, 5 Elements and practical applications (online module with Susanna – Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture Physician)
  • 8 Brocades Qigong (Ba Duan Jin): in-depth, health-focused training with clear teaching methods and adaptable variations for both standing and seated practice
  • 8-Step Tai Chi: step-by-step, detailed instruction in how to practice and teach the form safely and effectively, with in-depth exploration of each movement, including martial applications, health benefits and overall wellbeing principles
  • Qigong & Tai Chi: breathing and meditation
  • Assessment & Practicum: a supportive teaching assessment where you demonstrate your skills and receive clear, constructive feedback to build confidence and refine your teaching

Please note that while you may already be familiar with these forms from your own practice, this course provides in-depth, detailed instruction that goes far beyond what is typically covered in a standard class.
